MEUSAC holds consultation on EU Water Framework Directive

This morning, MEUSAC held a consultation session in conjunction with the Ministry for Energy and Water (MEW) and the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change (MESDC) on the EU Water Framework Directive with the aim of having those interested give their feedback through an online public consultation.

Mr Manuel Sapiano, from the Energy and Water Agency (EEA), explained that this consultation forms part of a fitness check of the Water Framework. The type of evaluation which is underway is to assess how the directive can be improved to meet the aspirations of all involved.

The public and experts in the field are being urged to reply to the questions listed in the online consultation document.

Some questions being posed include whether you feel the quality of surface and groundwater in your country or region has improved since the introduction of the Water Framework Directive, whether you have fears of flooding in the area you live in, and whether the flooding has increased in the last 10 years. While some questions may be answered to on the basis of an EU level, others can be replied to by thinking on the basis of a national level.
