We are prepared for every eventuality, Commission Deputy Secretary General says

European Commission Deputy Secretary General, Ms Céline Gauer, said when asked whether the EU will give in to a long-term Brexit delay, that the EU does not need a no-deal extension since it is prepared for a no-deal scenario. “We would be happy to give an extension to the UK if it’s as short as a few weeks but it’s the UK which has to be prepared not us, we are prepared.”

She was addressing MEUSAC’s Core Group members this morning as part of a tour de capitales by the European Commission to discuss the state of play of contingency and preparedness work of EU Member States in terms of Brexit.

Minister for European Affairs and Equality, Dr Helena Dalli, MEUSAC Head, Ms Mandy Falzon, and Head of EU Secretariat, Glenn Micallef also addressed the meeting.

Ms Gauer also pointed out that if the UK is still a member by the time the European Parliament elections take place, the UK needs to organise the elections for its citizens to vote.
