July 1 marks the start of Finland’s six-month term of the presidency of the EU Council. The role of the presidency is to chair the formal meetings of ministers held in Brussels and Luxembourg and the informal meetings held in Finland.
The priorities for Finland’s Presidency of the EU Council are to strengthen the EU’s position as a global leader in climate action, to consolidate common values and the rule of law, to make the EU more competitive and socially inclusive, and to protect the security of citizens comprehensively.
