On May 13, the EU Commission presented a package of guidelines and recommendations to help Member States gradually lift travel restrictions previously imposed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Commission explained that the guidelines are aimed at offering citizens the opportunity to unwind and relax following a period of uncertainty in circumstances deemed as extraordinary.
Package also tackles EU tourism sector recovery from pandemic following a period in which sector came to an almost complete halt.
The EU Commission reiterated importance of safety at all times and committed itself to respecting all necessary health precautions. When presenting package, the EU Commission reaffirmed traveller rights for reimbursement (either via voucher or cash) for cancelled transport tickets whilst confirming goal of ensuring that vouchers become a more attractive alternative to reimbursement.
