On June 11, the European Commission issued the results of the 2020 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI). This index monitors Europe’s overall digital performance and tracks the progress of the EU’s Member States with respect to their digital competitiveness.
This year’s index reported progress in all Member States, a figure that can be considered as more relevant in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, which has demonstrated how essential digital technologies have become.
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the progress that has been registered as we have been able to continue working remotely, monitor the spread of the virus and accelerate the search for a cure.
Malta ranked fifth overall when compared to its EU counterparts and is considered as one of the leaders in overall digital performance.
