World Humanitarian Day
On August 19, the European Union joined the rest of the world in paying tribute to all humanitarian workers who daily risk their lives to help those less fortunate, especially in times of worldwide crises.
During these testing times, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, humanitarian workers are still working against the odds to deliver aid to people living in difficult conditions.
Regrettably, on this day we also remember humanitarian workers who were either killed or kidnapped whilst on duty. In 2019, 124 humanitarian workers were kidnapped whilst 125 were killed.
