A New Pact on Migration to be presented next week

Migration is a challenge faced by all of Europe and therefore, all of Europe must do its part.

Commission President von der Leyen revealed that next week the European Commission will be putting forward a New Pact on Migration.

Von der Leyen stressed that the Pact’s approach will be based on humanity, solidarity and a “clear distinction between those who have the right to stay and those who do not”.

The Commission President promised that the Commission will “step-up and take responsibility” for dealing with the situation after the Moria fire on the Lesbos Island of Greece. She remarked that the Commission will have no issue with stepping-up efforts. However, she expects all European Union Member States to step-up accordingly, explaining that the issue is a common challenge that must be dealt with by all Member States.
