“Europe must now lead the way on digital – or it will have to follow the way of others”
President von der Leyen urged decision makers to create a common plan for a digital Europe with clearly defined goals for 2030. Such plans, von der Leyen argued, should encompass connectivity, skills and digital public services.
Von der Leyen explained that 20% of the NextGeneration’s European Union budget will be invested in projects of a digital nature.
The European Digital Strategy is based on four key principles, namely:
- Technology that works for people;
- A fair and competitive digital economy;
- An open, democratic and sustainable digital society; &
- Europe as a global digital player.
