On September 22, the European Commission proposed an upgrade on the current Single European Sky regulatory framework.
The main objective behind the proposed upgrade is to modernise the way European airspace is managed and to establish more sustainable and efficient flight paths. The upgrade has the potential to reduce air transport emissions by 10%.
2020 registered a sharp drop in air traffic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This has prompted the European Commission to consider further strengthening air traffic management by making it easier to adapt to traffic capacities depending on demand.
