The European Commission has approved a €2.5 million scheme to support Maltese animal farmers affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
The scheme was approved under the State Aid Temporary Framework. Support will be provided in the form of a direct grant.
The purpose of the scheme is to help animal farmers addressing the liquidity shortages they are facing due to the coronavirus outbreak as a result, among others, of the halting of the catering and hospitality sectors.
The European Commission found that the Maltese scheme is in-line with conditions set out in the Framework and concluded that the measure is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to remedy for the serious financial disturbance which was caused as a result of COVID-19.
