The inaugural event to launch the Conference on the Future of Europe will take place in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Europe Day, Sunday May 9, between 14:00 and 15:30.
The programme will feature a welcome speech by French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as speeches by the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa for the EU Council Presidency. There will also be short interventions by the co-chairs of the Conference Executive Board: Guy Verhofstadt on behalf of the European Parliament, Ana Paula Zacarias as the Portuguese Presidency’s representative and Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President of the European Commission.
27 Erasmus students from all Member States will be present in the Parliament’s hemicycle, and around 300 citizens invited to attend remotely will be present through large TV screens. Ministers for European Affairs and other guests will also join remotely.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on EbS+ and will also be web streamed on the European Parliament’s multimedia centre and EBS, on Parliament’s Facebook page and twitter account @Europarl_EN.
