Consultation Session: GPP Criteria on Paints, Varnishes and Road Markings

02 May 2019

The European Commission has outlined a number of specs for bidders to follow when bidding for public tenders tied to road markings or anything else that requires varnishes and paints. This was done as part of the Green Public Procurement (GPP) criteria to help safeguard our health and environment.

During a consultation session held on May 2, 2019 – another of a series on GPP criteria put up by MEUSAC and the Environment Ministry – it was stated by a representative of the ministry, Ms Branica Xuereb, that paint used for road markings has substances that wash onto agricultural land when it rains. Therefore, in a bid to reduce the health hazards from these substances, the Commission is requesting that bidders continue to adhere to CLP regulations and the DSD Directive when it comes to bidding for tenders.
