Consultation Session: Sustainable Development Vision 2050 – Education

18 September 2018

MEUSAC, in collaboration with the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change (MESDC), organised a consultation session on the Sustainable Development Vision 2050. The consultation session was the first in a series of sessions focusing on this subject. The session was held on September 18, 2018 and focused on the education, research and innovation sectors.

The Sustainable Development Vision sets out the aspirations and priorities of mainstreaming sustainable development, and seeks to set out a long-term strategy on sustainable development, incorporating the spirit of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Vision is structured on three pillars: the enhancement of economic growth, safeguarding of the environment, as well as social cohesion and wellbeing. The idea is for the Vision to adopt an equal balance of these 3 pillars, in order to ensure proper implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy across all sectors.

Stakeholders who attended the session welcomed the Vision for its long-term approach, and for going beyond the 2030 deadline of the UN Agenda on Sustainable Development. They also lauded the fact that the Vision was looking to address the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as early as possible.

A number of other consultations on this subject are expected to be held in the following weeks in order to continue the discussion with different sectors of the economy.
