Joint Harmonised EU Programme of Business and Consumer Surveys
Business, Consumer
The Business and Consumer Survey's programme is designed to gather information on the state of the economies in the EU and candidate countries, in order to be able to compare their business cycles for economic and monetary union (EMU) management purposes.
Business and consumer surveys provide essential information for economic surveillance, short-term forecasting and economic research. Moreover, they are widely used to detect turning points in the economic cycle. Surveys are therefore a key complement to official statistics, which are often available after long delays.
Objective:
- Produce a set if comparable data for all countries.
The programme is governed by two key principles:
- use by all national institutes of the same harmonised questionnaires; and
- conduct of the national surveys, and transmission of the results, according to a common timetable.
In terms of financing, this programme provides grants that cover a percentage of eligible costs.
Potential applicants under this programme vary from national statistical institutions, research centres to non-profit organisations.
