To mark Europe Day, MEUSAC and Europe Direct Valletta transformed Freedom Square in Valletta into an EU Citizens’ Fair bringing together in one place EU-related national information offices and contact points.
The Citizens’ Fair served as a one-stop-shop providing visitors with EU-related information, from job and EU career opportunities to EU citizens’ rights and EU funding opportunities and programmes.
The highlight of this year’s edition was the European Parliament elections to be held across all the EU Member States between 23 and 26 May, and in Malta on the 25th May.
The following were the services and opportunities offered by the participating EU national contact points: MEUSAC, Europe Direct Valletta, the European Commission Representation in Malta, European Parliament Liaison Office Malta, European Asylum Support Office, Europe for Citizens Contact Point – Malta, the European Consumer Centre Malta, the European Employment Services (EURES Malta), SOLVIT Malta, National URBACT Point – Malta, the EU Qualifications Framework, Euroguidance, the European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ programmes, the Endeavour and Reach High Scholarships, EU Careers, EU Funds for Malta, Cross-border healthcare, and the Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation.
A quiz for post-secondary students was also organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office to test the students’ knowledge on the EU institutions, EU affairs and the upcoming European Parliament elections.
Minister for European Affairs and Equality Dr Helena Dalli, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Carmelo Abela, Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds and Social Dialogue, Aaron Farrugia, Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta, Elena Grech, and Head of MEUSAC, Mandy Falzon visited the stands.
The event was supported by the Representation of the European Commission and the European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta.
