A delegation comprising three parliamentary assistants of MEP Dr Alfred Sant, along with Dr Sant’s executive assistant, visited MEUSAC’s office of February 13, 2018 to get an insight of MEUSAC’s work.
Ms Iris Rohmer, Mr Dario Annoscia, Mr Daniel Buhagiar and Mw Stephanie Abela were given an explanation of MEUSAC’s roles.
MEUSAC was represented by Mr Joe Sciberras, Manager, Communications and Events, Mr Neil Portelli, Director, EU Policy and Legislation, Dr Darren Grasso, Executive, EU Funding and Mr Duncan Barry, Executive, Media and Information.
A discussion between the two sides followed on several issues, including on the fact that MEUSAC organises information and consultation sessions to gather feedback from civil society in a bid to help the Maltese government formulate a position on any proposed EU policy and legislation, MEUSAC’s central role in assisting NGOs, local councils and government entities form an application to garner EU funds from the various streams available and certain funding streams which were more sought after than others by organisations in Malta.
Mr Sciberras also spoke about the fact that MEUSAC was one of three entities that has been appointed locally by the European Commission to host the Europe Direct Information Centres. The centres will form part of some 450 walk-in centres available across Europe, the aim of which is to inform the public on anything EU.
