On April 8 and 10, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta (EPLO) and Europe Direct Valletta organised informative sessions for first-time voters. The activities were held at the University of Malta Junior College in Msida and Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar respectively.
The sessions consisted of an explanation on the importance of voting in the European Parliament Election and the ‘thistimeimvoting.eu’ campaign by Acting Head of EPLO, Anna Zammit. Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mr Joseph Church also explained to the audience what the voting process involves, from the distribution of the voting documents to the casting of the vote in the ballot box.
Participants in the events were given the opportunity to take part in a mock-up voting session during which officials from the Electoral Commission explained each and every part of the voting process, including the voting on a sample ballot sheet in a mock-up polling booth.
Students were given a handy informative booklet specifically addressed to first-time voters and published by EPLO Malta. They were also provided with general information material on the European Elections by Europe Direct Valletta.
