Conference on the Future of Europe

The Conference has been a major pan-European democratic exercise which offered citizens a new public forum for an open, inclusive, and transparent debate on Europe and its future

Between May 2021 and April 2022, European citizens from all walks of life were invited to take part in an unprecedented EU-wide initiative by giving their views to the EU institutions on a number of topics to help shape a common future.

The Conference was placed under the authority of the three institutions – the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU – who committed to follow up on the recommendations that came out of the components of the Conference, namely, the Multilingual digital platform, Decentralised events, European Citizens’ Panels, and the Conference Plenary.

Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta (SEM) has been at the forefront locally in involving as wide an audience as possible in this EU-wide initiative by promoting the use of the multilingual digital platform and by organising a multitude of events. Individual reports of the events were uploaded on the platform to feed into the process of formulation of the final recommendations of the Conference.

A national report was also compiled, bringing together all the initiatives taken by SEM throughout the duration of the Conference.

The final report on the outcome of the Conference, including 49 proposals, was presented to the Presidents of the three institutions on May 9, 2022.
