The Dublin III Regulation has been in force from January 1, 2014. The aim of the revision is to provide for a fair relocation of applicants across Member States, as well as to ensue stronger guarantees for unaccompanied minors.
The revision to Dublin III was proposed by the European Commission on May 4, 2016.
The European Parliament adopted a report on the proposal on November 6, 2017, proposing a number of amendments.
A great deal of work has been carried out by various presidencies of the Council of the EU, yet there is significant difficulty in making any significant progress. Negotiations within the Council are still ongoing.
