Theme: Trade
Title: Trade Policy Review
Policy Reference: N/A

A strong European Union needs a strong trade and investment policy to support economic recovery, create quality jobs, protect European companies from unfair practices at home and abroad, and ensure coherence with broader priorities in the areas of sustainability, climate change, the digital economy and security.

European Commission

The European Commission has launched a public consultation exercise,¬†seeking input from the European Parliament, Member States, stakeholders and civil society. The Commission’s objective is to build a consensus around a fresh medium-term direction for EU trade policy, responding to a variety of new global challenges and taking into account the lessons learned from the coronavirus crisis.

More information on the consultation exercise may be found here. Written comments may be submitted until November 15, 2020.

Local Implementation

MEUSAC held an online Core Group meeting on July 29, 2020 to discuss this review with social partners and civil society.

Participants noted that further consultation is needed on various aspects of the post-COVID economy, to assess the real impacts of the pandemic and how to best move forward, not only in terms of the trade policy revision but also in the context of the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe.
