Bike Ride to EU Funded Sites - Route 2

On Sunday, May 26, Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta – SEM will be organising the second of four cycling rides to EU funded sites. These organised tours for adults to different sites and projects around Malta and Gozo that have been co-financed by the European Union, will showcase the various ways in which the European Union seeks to invest in and support.

The 27km route (See Gallery below) starts at 8am at the seaside village of Marsaxlokk next to the Parish Church, where we will be heading off to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Xrobb l-Għaġin, a site which benefitted from EU funding, passing on our way by Tas-Silġ.

The Centre provides ex-situ rehabilitation of wildlife from across Malta and surrounding seas: marine (turtles and cetaceans), terrestrial (such as hedgehogs, shrews, lizards, snakes and bats) and avian fauna. Following rehabilitation, these are released into their natural habitat. This is indeed a unique attraction with the opportunity to interact with the rehabilitating wildlife.

Later, we will be riding through pleasant environments of the Munxar cliffs, Torri tal-Mozz and Torri ta' Mamo to the valleys to Marsaskala. Past Żonqor, we will take a break by the Kappella San Niklaw and take a ruralway to Żabbar, where we will join a short spurt of Sunday morning traffic to reach Fgura.

The route continues through the quiet streets of Ħal Tarxien and Santa Luċija, onto the valley of Wied Ġarnaw to Gudja and the ruralways of Ħas-Saptan to Birżebbuġa, Qajjenza seafront and the limits of San Luċjan to get back to Marsaxlokk.
