Cycling Tour to EU Funded Sites - Gozo Route

Organised by SEM and ROTA

On June 4, SEM and Europe Direct Valletta held the last of three cycling tours to EU funded sites. These organised tours for adults to different sites and projects around Malta and Gozo that have been co-financed by the European Union, showcase the various ways in which the European Union seeks to invest in and support.

SEM teamed up with ROTA - an eNGO advocating for safe bicycle use - to hold cycling tours around three main areas: a South Tour, a North Tour and a Gozo Tour.

The Gozo route started and ended at the ferry harbour in Mġarr. It took a clockwise trail with the short hill out of Mġarr Harbour to Triq Lourdes.

There were three stops, the first being at San Lawrenz village and a second at the Ċittadella in Victoria en route to the third one at the Ġgantija Archaeological Park in Xagħra. Officials from the San Lawrenz Local Council, the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and also Heritage Malta provided detailed explanations of how EU funds were invested in the respective sites.

After Ġgantija, the route ended up in Għajnsielem and Mġarr Harbour, covering a total distance of around 26km.
