Malta in the European Union

Presentations to foreign students

Throughout September and October, SEM officials delivered three presentations on Malta’s role in the EU to groups of students from Denmark who were on a study visit in Malta.

The presentations were delivered on September 12, September 28 and October 4, to around 24 students per session, currently in their final year of studies at Øregård Gymnasium, Silkeborg Gymnasium, and Nykøbing Gymnasium respectively.

To kickstart the session, students were given a brief overview of Malta and the European Union and provided students with some information on the milestones Malta has achieved since its accession and how it is represented in the different European Union Institutions.

For students to be able to understand more on Malta’s role in the European Union, a part of the session was dedicated to explaining the European Green Deal and how the European institutions want to achieve the goals set out. This was then followed by a comparison of how Malta and Denmark have been progressing on the achievement of the European Green Deal goals.

Seeing that this year has been designated as the European Year of Youth, SEM officials encouraged the students present to be active citizens and engage in the different activities and initiatives that will be taking place in Denmark as well as at a European level.

To ensure student participation and encourage active discussion throughout this session, SEM officials invited students to participate via their phones by answering a short online quiz and multiple-choice questions.
