SEM holds two information sessions on grant schemes for SMEs

On September 18, SEM in collaboration with the Measures and Support Division within the Ministry for the Economy, European Funds and Lands organised two online information sessions on ERDF schemes for SMEs namely the SME Enhance, Start-Up Enhance and Business Reports for SMEs schemes.

The SME Enhance scheme seeks to support SMEs through non-repayable Grants to part- finance investment towards expansion, diversification, innovation of the operations and initial investment, aimed at potentially improving the productivity of the enterprise.

Under the scheme, there are different funding allocations, depending on the specificities of the enterprise. The SME Enhance (de minimis) scheme allows for a maximum funding amount of €120,000 per investment and part-financing eligible expenditure up to 50% for investments in Malta and 60% for investments in Gozo. The maximum funding amount under SME Enhance (GBER) is €500,000 per investment and part-financing eligible expenditure according to size of undertaking and place of investment.

The Start-Up Enhance grant scheme seeks to support Start-ups through non-repayable Grants to part-finance investments in tangible and intangible assets contributing to potentially improve the productivity of the enterprise. The maximum funding amount is €400,000 per investment and part-financing eligible expenditure up to 50% for investments in Malta and 60% for investments in Gozo.

Applications for the above schemes are open on a rolling-call basis, with the next cut-off dates being September 29, October 31 and November 30, 2023. Grants shall be awarded on a first come-first served basis, subject to budget availability.

The Business Reports for SMEs grant scheme seeks to support SMEs through the provision of non-repayable Grants in the form of a lump sum to part-finance a business report procured from external Consultancy Service Providers which are registered with the Intermediate Body, and which are autonomous and unrelated to the Beneficiary Undertaking. The maximum funding amount is €4,000 per investment and part-financing eligible expenditure up to 80% for investments in Malta and Gozo.

Applications are open on a rolling-call basis, with the next cut-off dates being September 29 and October 16. Grants shall be awarded on a first come-first served basis, subject to budget availability.

During the information sessions, participants were provided with more information on the calls. These sessions better defined the parameters of the funding calls, allowing attendees to gain more awareness of SEM’s funding assistance services, and raise queries in this regard.
