“As this annual report shows, SEM and Europe Direct Valletta have delivered successfully upon its commitments for 2022. The report presents a snapshot of several achievements related to communications and outreach on matters related to the EU as well as the assistance provided to organisations applying and implementing EU-funded projects. With the refocusing of its functions to serve as a one-stop-shop for EU funds in Malta, SEM is indeed delivering on its mission to facilitate the absorption of EU funds by a wide array of individuals, enterprises, NGOs, local councils and youths.”

Denise Fiorentino, CEO

The Annual Report of SEM for 2022 brings together a synthesis of the work carried out by the Agency last year, to promote the benefits brought about by EU funds, through information sharing and outreach campaigns on traditional and modern media channels. SEM also constantly strived to facilitate access to the wide array of funding opportunities for differenti sectors of society, as well as to bring citizens closer to the EU through the work carried out by Europe Direct Valletta.

In 2022, SEM continued to successfully execute its functions to assist organisations and individuals to successfully apply for EU funding opportunities and to implement the successful EU-funded projects according to the established rules and regulations.

To this effect, last year, the Agency implemented no less than 74 different events ranging from public discussions, public events, targeted sectoral training and information sessions and press conferences. 84 project proposals were submitted under various EU funding programmes and another 37 organisations were assisted in the implementation of their successful EU-funded projects. The team personally met over 400 individuals and organisations and provided assistance to an equal amount of requests for information.

We look forward to keep working as a team to make EU funds more understandable and accessible to many more potential beneficiaries to continue to change the quality of life of people and of our country.
