Dr Chris Bonett visits children at SEM’s SkolaSajf activity

The Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds speaks to children about the benefits of EU funds

Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds, Dr Chris Bonett, visited a group of children from Ħal Tarxien SkolaSajf Centre in a skolasajf activity at SEM themed, ‘EU Funds and Me’.

SkolaSajf activities are organised by Europe Direct Valletta and SEM in close collaboration with the Foundation for Educational Services.

The Parliamentary Secretary entered into a conversation with the children on EU funds and how these funds are invested in Malta through projects that are of benefit to society such as health, education and the environment. The children were also given the opportunity to interact directly with Dr Bonett and ask questions about his role as Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds.

SEM CEO, Denise Fiorentino and FES Chairperson, Pamela Schembri were also present for the event, accompanied by officials from both entities.

Europe Direct Valletta and SEM have been participating in the government-run summer school SkolaSajf for the past 11 years. Between July 17 and September 1, 2023, Europe Direct Valletta and SEM will deliver 35 sessions to 8–12-year-olds, reaching around 400 students in Malta and Gozo.

Through a short presentation, a quiz and interactive games, children are engaged to learn some basic facts about the EU and how EU funds are used in Malta and Gozo through different projects related to education, heritage, health, transport, environment, inclusion and energy.
